As previously mentioned, [angular contact bearings]  are usually mounted in a group of two or more opposed preloaded units with rigid or elastic spacers. Standard contact angles of deflection include: 15, 20, 25, 30, and 40 with other custom angles available to meet special applications. Furthermore, ceramic and special SV30 stainless steel materials are also available to maximize performance. 

Many angular contact bearing manufacturers have three or more dimensional series to accommodate higher speeds or higher loads than “standard.” In particular, the most common series names are:

ISO 18 Series - highest speed, lowest load bearings

ISO 19 Series - second highest speed, with the second lowest load bearings

ISO 10 Series - highest load, second lowest speed bearings

ISO 02 Series - highest load, lowest speed bearings

Many times, manufacturers have further separated the ISO dimensional classes by adding a higher speed variant with the same dimensions. Angular contact bearings are designed such that a contact angle between the races and the balls is formed when the bearing is in use. The major design characteristic of this type of nsk bearing is that one, or both of the ring races have one shoulder relieved, or higher than the other. In order for these bearings to function properly, they must be assembled with a thrust load. 

This loading (or preload) creates a line of contact (or contact angle) between the inner race, the ball and the outer race. The preload can be built into the bearing or created when the bearing is inserted into an assembly. The contact angle varies from 15° to 40° and is measured relative to a line running perpendicular to the bearing axis. Angular contact ntn bearings are unidirectional thrust bearings that can withstand heavy thrust loads and moderate radial loads.
